Thailand: Encourage installation of rooftop solar panels to save energy
On August 5, the Department of Alternative Energy Development of Thailand said that the government will guide 800 state-owned institutions across the country to save at least 20% of energy, and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) will provide energy service solutions through their ESCO companies.
ESCO will invest in installing energy-saving equipment, including rooftop solar panels. The government will also encourage residents to install rooftop solar panels through tax cuts, etc. It is expected that about 90,000 households will join the project from 2024 to 2025. The total budget of the project is 20.2 billion baht, which will save 590 million kWh of electricity each year.
