The International Renewable Energy Agency - IRENA, announced that the accumulated world power of solar photovoltaic energy reached the mark of 683.5 gigawatts (GW).
Among the regions of the world with the greatest use of solar modules are Asia, which holds 374 GW, by Europe, with 153 GW and North America with 116 GW.
Overall, the global capacity of renewables reached 2,315 GW at the end of last year, which represents about one third of the total installed electricity generation capacity in the world.
Most of this capacity comes from hydroelectric energy, with 1,172 GW of the total, while wind and solar represent the majority of the rest, with 564 GW of installed capacity of wind energy, according to solar filed news.
