Milestones! India's rooftop photovoltaic installed capacity has reached 2.1GW
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of India stated in a recently updated report that a 2.1GW photovoltaic system has been successfully installed in the second phase of the country's rooftop photovoltaic program, reaching a new milestone. The Minister of New and Renewable Energy of India shared this information and emphasized the ongoing efforts to promote clean energy adoption nationwide.

In the second phase of the plan, India's Central Financial Assistance (CFA) is expanding to support the installation of grid connected rooftop photovoltaic systems in the residential sector. Its subsidy policy has been carefully designed to encourage individual residential consumers to adopt photovoltaic systems.

For states belonging to the general category, their subsidy policies are as follows:

(1) For photovoltaic systems above 3kW: 14588 rupees per kW.

(2) Photovoltaic systems above 3kW and below 10kW: initial 3kW is 14588 rupees/kW, by 7294 rupees/kW.

(3) Photovoltaic systems above 10kW: Fixed subsidy of 94822 rupees per kW.

In specific regions such as Northeastern India, North Arkansas, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladak, Lakshap, Andaman, and Nicobar Islands, there have been modifications to their subsidy policies.

(1) For photovoltaic systems above 3kW: 17662 rupees per kW.

(2) Photovoltaic systems above 3kW and below 10kW: initial 3kW is 17662 kW, by 8831 rupees per kW.

(3) Photovoltaic systems above 10kW: Fixed subsidy of 114803 rupees per kW.

This plan was launched in March 2019, with a total financial allocation of 118.14 billion rupees. It not only supports the installation of residential photovoltaic systems, but also provides incentives for distribution companies that exceed the basic installed capacity of their operating areas. The second phase of rooftop photovoltaics being implemented is driven by user demand, and the installed capacity of the photovoltaic system is allocated according to the recommendations of the distribution provider. As of July 31, 2023, out of the allocated 3.37GW of installed capacity, 2.207GW of rooftop photovoltaic systems have been successfully installed in the residential sector.

These achievements mark an important step towards cleaner and sustainable energy in India.
