Italy's solar installed capacity reached 3.5GW from January to September
The latest statistical data from Italian energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE) shows that Italy added approximately 3.5 GW of photovoltaic power generation capacity through approximately 280000 systems in the first nine months of this year.
As of the end of September 2023, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation in the country has reached 28.57 GW. Among them, approximately 8.44 GW is rooftop installed capacity, and the remaining 16.61 GW comes from ground mounted photovoltaic arrays.
About 46% of the newly added power generation in the first nine months of this year was residential solar power generation, and the recent increase in installed capacity has mainly come from commercial and industrial (C&I) and utility scale projects with a capacity of over 1 MW.
The regions with the highest proportion of newly installed capacity are Lombardy (649 MW), Veneto (486 MW), and Emilia Romagna (361 MW).
