Germany USES 43 Percent Of Its Electricity From Renewable Sources, Set A New Record

In the first nine months of 2019, renewable energy accounted for a record 43 percent of Germany's electricity use.But doubts remain about Germany's ability to meet its future goals.

The new data were compiled by the baden-wurttemberg solar and hydrogen research centre (ZSW) and the German association for energy and water management (BDEW).

The analysis shows that solar, wind and other renewable sources generated about 183 billion KWH in the first three quarters of this year, surpassing the 125 billion KWH generated by German lignite and bituminous coal plants.

Onshore wind was the no. 1 renewable energy source, generating 72 billion kilowatt-hours, by solar at 41 billion kilowatt-hours.

Stefan Kapferer, executive chairman of BDEW, said he was "pleased" to see renewable energy contributing more and more to Germany's electricity needs. But he warned that the figures contrasted "starkly" with the "grim situation" in Germany's renewable energy development.

"We are in a real recession because of land shortages and tighter and tighter distance regulations. If politicians don't deregulate the expansion of wind farms, we will be well behind the 65 percent target."

Earlier this year, Germany raised its renewable energy target to generate two-thirds of its total electricity needs by 2030.Then, German chancellor Angela merkel approved the new climate plan and set the target of increasing the number of solar photovoltaic installations to 98GW by 2030.

ZSW, executive director of FrithjofStai to decide, "said Dr With the development of wind power of stagnation, Germany needs the photovoltaic (pv) as a renewable energy goals of" second pillar"

However, Stai sssstrongly believes that the current development speed of the project must be improved as soon as possible.

"The recent target is to double the number of installations to 98GW in 11 years. If Germany cannot speed up the expansion of pv soon, we will only reach half of the target. That is why we need to take effective measures to promote the expansion of solar projects."
