The Dubai Water Power Bureau set up a joint venture with Innogy, Germany, and Innogy signed a memorandum of understanding with the French lighting company Ragni to decide on the design and deployment of an intelligent light pole. The first quarter of 2018 began the production of intelligent light pole. In addition, the Dubai water and electricity bureau has also worked with Colas Group, a French company, to study solar panels and set up research and development centers in Dubai.

Currently, the Dubai water and power bureau is evaluating Wattway (watt Road) technology, which will be installed on the road panels, solar power generation. Colas said that if the construction of 1 km long road using watt road technology, you can provide public lighting for about 5000 people in the city. A 20 square meter watt panel will provide enough electricity for a family.
